Holly, who hails from Marston Mills, MA, is the beautiful and graceful English Pointer who wowed the crowd and captured the coveted Best In Show award after her incredible performance on the nationally televised dog show. Just as eating turkey and watching football are Thanksgiving traditions for some people, the National Dog Show Presented by Purina has become a highly anticipated televised event for dog aficionados. Now in it's 7th year, the National Dog Show featured a couple of extra highly anticipated events during its 2 hour broadcast on Thanksgiving Day. One of these events was the unveiling of The Dogue de Bordeaux, a large sized mastiff that originated in France. The Dogue de Bordeaux made it's debut on this show as the newest breed in dog competition. Another exciting and fun feature was the appearance of Uno the Beagle. A superstar in his own right, Uno is now retired after becoming the first beagle ever to win the Westminster Kennel Club Show in February. Uno was formally invited as a special guest and was on hand to lend a "paw" for the canine cause by observing the performances with the other spectators. However, during competition, all eyes were upon Holly the English pointer, who took top honors after performing flawlessly in front of thousands of people. According to the American Kennel Club, "dog shows are a process of elimination, with one dog being named Best in Show at the end of the show. Only the Best of Breed winners can advance to compete in the Group competitions. Each AKC-recognized breed falls into one of seven group classifications. The seven groups are Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding. Four placements are awarded in each group, but only the first-place winner advances to the Best In Show competition." The English Pointer is a member of the Sporting breed and is bred to hunt game birds on both land and in the water. Said to be the "aristocrat of dog breeds" the English pointer is a kind and gentle breed with people and children, yet intense and focused in the field. Bred to perform to such high standards, Holly exceeded dog show expectations, and gracefully put on the performance of a lifetime by showing the canine world how a proper English Pointer behaves under pressure. Training and/or performing for any competition is no easy task, and the pressure can be even greater for a dog show that is nationally televised. However, according to the Cape Cod Times, Holly's hometown newspaper, " The honor is nothing new for the nearly three year old English pointer. Holly has won 95 Best in Show Awards since 2007." In this competition, Holly beat out 1,600 canine contestants for the dog show's top prize. So GregRobert Pet Supplies would like to say Hip Hip Hooray for Holly........ The English pointer with now 96 Best in Show Award, and congratulations to the other 1599 canines who showed their stuff and gave dog lovers a great start to this holiday season......................
