I wonder how many dog owners consider their dog to be their best friend? What is a best friend? Someone who is always happy to see you? Someone who thinks your arrival home is the best thing to ever happen? Someone who will sit quietly next to you when you are feeling down and play wildly with you when you determine the right time? Sounds like an ideal best friend - sounds like most dogs that I know!!
National Pet Week was founded in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and will be celebrated May 4- 10. 2008. The idea is promote responsible pet ownership. Don't you think that your best friend deserves a responsible owner?
Make sure that your pet gets an annual veterinarian check-up. The annual veterinary exam is the key to a healthy pet living a long life. During an annual exam, a veterinarian can pick up the early warning signs of a serious problem that will affect the dog in the future. Often serious problems can often be corrected or at least slowed in progress if detected early. Your vet will give your pet a "Nose to Tail Exam". He will exam the dog's nose, eyes, ears and mouth, especially the teeth. Using a stethoscope he will listen to the lungs and heart. The abdomen, back and tail area will be palpitated feeling for any abnormalities. Your dog's coat and fur will be checked for fleas, ticks, and other external parasites, as well lumps and condition of the coat. Did you know that a dull coat on the outside means an ill pet on the inside? Finally, the paws will be checked for swelling and muscle damage the legs. Nails will be checked to see if too long. Did you know that too long nails are very uncomfortable and even painful for a pet to walk with and can easily be caught on something and the nail bed can be ripped right out?
Your pet should have blood drawn for a heartworm check. Preventive medicine for heartworms is a must, once the mosquitoes are out (if you live in the South, then you pet should always be on preventative heartworm medicine). A stool sample should be checked for worms and and parasites. Finally, all vaccinations should be brought up to date.
Once your pet has had his exam, your job is to keep him healthly.
Dental care is just as important for your dog as it is for you. Good dental care can add years to your pet's life. If you are able, you should brush your pet's teeth at the gumline where most dental problems begin. If you cannot brush, then dental dog toys and treats can make it easy for you to start an oral hygiene program for your dog!
Coat and nail care should also be done on a regular basis. Your pet will enjoy the brushing of his coat (think massage) and there are so many different grooming tools available. Nail trimmers are available for every size dog.
Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

With a name like Yummy Chummies, I thought that the editorial staff at Petazon should take a look at these new dog treats.
We purchased 3 different varieties for our dog and he liked the Yummy Chummies Bacon Flavored Treats the best. All varieties of the Yummy Chummies have Alaska Salmon as the main ingredient. Below are the ingredients of the Bacon Flavored treats.
Ingredients: Wild Alaska Salmon, Wheat flour, Vegetable glycerine, Propionic Acid, Natural smoke flavor,Citric acid, Garlic, Calcium carbonate, Natural bacon flavor, Natural mixed tocopherols and rosemary extract.
Salmon are high in vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids. Including OMEGA-3 and OMEGA-6!
Wild Alaskan Salmon is an incredibly healthy food and dogs are drawn to this natural treat like none other. You will be amazed at the excitement and interest dogs have in these remarkable snacks. It is widely used as an effective training aid.
Most dogs love fish, especially salmon.
Historically, native Alaskans used salmon to feed their sled dogs. Salmon gave their dogs essential protein, vitamins, and minerals. Nutrition experts are discovering what native Alaskans have known for hundreds of years: in addition to the high protein, vitamin, and mineral content, salmon is also an excellent source of Omega-6 fatty acids. \
Can't beat these treats .. nutritious and dogs love them.
Yummy Chummies are made in Alaska by Arctic Paws, a family owned and operated company whose goal is to produce the highest quality dog treats. Each semi-moist Yummy Chummies Salmon & Potato treat is about 3/4" wide and 1" long and easily breaks up into smaller pieces without a mess, making it a great dog training treat.
Yummy Chummies products are perfect for dogs with allergies.
What's the downfall? We felt that these treats were a bit pricey for an everyday treat... but GregRobert had the lowest price on the web from what we could determine in our research.

Finally, and I do mean FINALLY, a cat repellent that actually trains your cat to stay away from certain places. I was so tired of my cat using my plants as her personal play ground. I tried the SSSCAT Automated Cat Repellent by MULTIVET and was amazed with the results. It comes with a patented motion detector device and a can of harmless, non-toxic spray. Just set the motion detector up near the area that you want your cat to keep away from. You can adjust angles between detection and spray directions depending on when you place the motion detector. Also, the direction of spray can be adjusted up or down. When your cat approaches the restricted area, a brisk harmless spray will be emitted. The spray is scentless, harmless to pets and will not stain. Your cat will immediately leave (run away from) the area.
This is a great item because there will be no negative feelings between you and your cat. Your cat will never know that set this up. Think of all the uses for the SSSCAT Automated Cat Repellent. From stopping furniture scratching furniture to jumping on counters to chewing plants. Also, great for keeping pets out of entire rooms; like the baby's room or living room.
This product will train your pet to leave an area alone. The training fast, effective and painless to both you and your cat. Once your pet is trained, you can move the detector to another area and start again. Refills are available for the SSSCAT Automated Cat Repellent. Next I take the detector to my kitchen and start training the cat to stay off of the kitchen table.

Recently, I had a friend ask how she could get started in an online Pet Supply business and gave the question a bit of thought.
There are 2 major hurdles to selling pet supplies online if you do not have an off-line pet store. The first is "Where are you going to find a drop-shipper that will drop ship your pet products to your customers for you?"
Here are some dropshippers that work in the pet supply business:
One Source Pet Supplies - DropShip Wholesalers
Operation Pet Supply Drop Ship - Over 150,000 Products
SaleHoo PET Supply Dropship Directory
Doba Wholesale Pet Supplies Drop Ship
Shopster - Pet Products Dropship+eCommerce System
Wholesaler Hub - Wholesale Pet Supplies Dropship Directory
You can also get involved in Pet Supply Affiliate programs which allow you to get a commission on sales of pet products that other online retailers sell.
Here are popular affiliate networks
LinkConnector - including That Pet Place
LinkShare - Including Dr. Fosters and Petco
Shareasale - A ton of Pet Affiliate programs
NetShops (PetCarriers and others)
GregRobert Affiliate / Drop Ship Program
The second hurdle is search engine marketing - "How are you going to get visitors"
Press Releases are huge in getting your name out there:
Press Releases can help your new Pet company get more exposure and ultimately more traffic.
Consider using PR Genie for your releases. Michigan PR.net offers Free Release and syndication. PRWeb is the Grand Daddy of online Press Releases and is worth the money if you want to send out a great release that gets picked up.
Of course, programs like Adwords and Yahoo PPC are a must when you get started .. so budget for marketing expense there.
Google Adwords for PPC Advertising
Others to consider:
First and foremost... get listed on www.Petazon.com (for free!)

Well .. Petazon doesn't claim to be the Wizard of OZ .. but maybe we can play the role of Wizard of FLEA REMOVAL and help you start the flea season off right.
There are a million and one flea products on the market - but I want to bring to your attention an All-Natural flea spray that is safer.
DeFlea by Natural Chemistry does not use pyrethroids or similar chemicals to achieve results, so fleas and other parasites do not become resistant. Theoretically this ensures that the product never becomes ineffective.
It is the only EPA registered flea killer that can be safely used in conjunction with all spot-on type products. Deflea pet & area spray kills fleas on contact in 1-2 seconds just as fast as toxic, insecticidal sprays. Deflea killls ticks on contact in 2-3 minutes therefore it must be applied daily to twice daily in tick infested areas. Deflea also makes an effective concentrated shampoo and strong dip for infestations.
DeFlea can even be used on very young puppies and kittens, nursing mothers and when other flea control products are present!
If you want to use a homeopathic Flea solution that is effective and guaranteed - DeFlea is the place to be.
Lions and Ticks and Fleas - No more!

I have just discovered this great new company, ABO Gear (stands for Australian Beach Outdoor). This company, with its Australian background has a great insight into outdoor lifestyle. They are sharing their innovative and practical fetch toys for dogs. These toys are great, high quality, interactive play toy. Every toy is made of strong and durable water buffalo leather (suede). They have double stitching to reinforce all the seams and cotton filling.
My dog, Cody, loves the Fetch n Throw Dog Toys. This is by far is new favorite toy. The Fetch n Throw Dog Toy is strong and durable, yet light weight for throwing. It is available in Brandy or Chocolate colored suede and in medium (7 in. length) or large (10 in. length) sizes.
The Boomerang Dog Fetch Toys is another cool looking toy. It is, of course, shaped like a boomerang. It does not work like a boomerang, so your dog can actually chase after it. It also comes in Brandy or Chocolate colored suede and the size is 8 inches.
Also, available are Donut Dog Fetch Toys, Football Dog Fetch Toys, Tennis Ball Dog Fetch Toys and Dog Bone Dog Fetch Toys. The best prices I have found are at GregRobert Quality Pet Supplies.
Spring is finally here! Isn't it time to get your best friend a new, cool toy so the two of you can get outside and have some fun?
