National Pet Week was founded in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Auxiliary to the AVMA, and is now widely celebrated throughout the United States and other parts of the world.

27 Years of celebrating our pets!

In 2008, National Pet Week is May 4-10. Each year, its goals are:

• to promote responsible pet ownership,


• celebrate the human-animal bond, and


• promote public awareness of veterinary medicine.

Pets have profound affects on the lives of their human owners. They provide us with love, endless hours of companionship, and wonderful relationships that help fill our our lives. National Pet Week is a celebration of those relationships with our dogs, cats, birds and even reptile pets.

This years theme is "Pets Jazz Up Your Life" and you can order pet week paraphalia here.

An important part of responsible pet ownership is making sure that your pet's health needs are met.

You should consult your veterinarian whenever you have a question about your pet's health or welfare. It is also important that your veterinarian regularly sees your pet to keep them living healthy and happy lives.
