"Your pet can soon be enjoying the relaxing massage the RapidBath™ system provides while receiving a thorough, deep down cleaning" - claims the makers of this revolutionary new system
With experience, most pet owners find that they can completely bathe their pets in under 3 minutes! We tried it and it took us 8 minutes on a 45 lb. dog - but he DID like it. The amount of time it takes will vary based on the size of the animal, coat thickness and length, and dirtiness level. Here are the technical details on this new device: While the device is designed to work either inside or out, your pet will enjoy the experience even more when warm water can be used for bathing. • You will need to use a water source that has a flow rate that exceeds 3 gallons per minute. The vast majority of homes will meet this requirement both in the shower and at an outside water faucet. Building codes limit the amount of water pressure to sinks; the RapidBath unit is not designed for use at the sink. RapidBath installation: To use the RapidBath™ system outside, attach the RapidBath™ unit directly to the end of a garden hose 50 feet or shorter. The HydroSurge® RapidBath™ hose can be used in place of a garden hose. Select the most appropriate shampoo formulation based on your animal’s skin and coat condition. Insert the cartridge by inserting the cartridge opening onto the shampoo draw tube. Each shampoo cartridge is designed to provide at least 5 minutes of shampoo, or enough to bathe the standard dog 2 times. Variability in water pressure may result in substantially longer shampoo draw periods. Bathing instructions: 1. Let your pet see and sniff the Rapid Bath unit first. This will alleviate some of the anxiety they may be feeling. 2. With the system set on slow rinse, aim the water spray behind, and away from your pet. This gives theman opportunity to get used to the sound of spraying water. Test the water temperate of the water to ensure it is a relaxing, warm temperature. Be careful to not use hot water. Now move the setting to fast rinse. 3. Move the devise setting to “bathe” and within seconds, the high quality RapidBath™ shampoo will be drawn into the oxygenated water mix. Move your hand forward until the pet’s rear area is getting wet. Although your pet may jump at first, soon it will be enjoying the relaxing massaging action. 4. Slowly move the spray pattern across the top of your pet from the tail to the neck area. Angle the spray sothat it is at a 45 degree angle to lift and penetrate the hair. This will ensure a thorough cleaning down to the skin. 5. Continue the slow, side to side motion from the top of the animal down each side. 6. Next, clean each of the legs, underside, paws, and under tail area. Finally, you have a way to effectively clean all those hard to reach areas! 7. When finished bathing, set the RapidBath™ system to the HIGH rinse setting and repeat steps 4-6. Although no shampoo will be coming from the unit, your pet will continue to enjoy a relaxing water massageand enjoy the health benefits of getting oxygenated water right down to the skin. All RapidBath™ shampoo products are formulated to be clean rinsing and leave no shampoo residue which can dry the skin and coat. For bathing an animal’s face: 8. When face bathing is required, it is recommended that you wet the face using the LOW rinse setting on your RapidBath™ unit, ensuring that you do not spray the water directly at the eyes, ears, nose, or mouth of the animal, and that no water enters the ear canal. 9. Rub a small amount of tearless, unscented shampoo into your hands and hand bathe your pet’s face just as you would your own. 10. Rinse using the RapidBath™ unit on the LOW setting just as you did in step 8. Labels: Pet Grooming and Baths, RapidBath Coupons Wednesday, November 28, 2007 New Puppy? You'll need to think about getting these items- CLICK HERE!OK, you have decided to add a puppy to your household. Everyone is excited! But now what? What will the new addition require? We have all heard stories of puppies chewing up things that weren't meant to be chewed! What about house breaking? The list goes on. Take a look at the tips below for the basics to get you started and moving in the right direction. Get Informed: The first thing you need is information! This will make for a better result and a calmer pet owner. Read up on the needs of puppies and dogs. There are many training and puppy/dog books available. A good informative book(s) is well worth your time to read. Kennels and Crates: The little one can't roam the house at night or when you are away! You'll need a plastic or wire crate. The information in your dog book will tell you how to train your puppy to accept the crate. You'll need to consider growth. Wire crates can have a divider panel to change the length of the crate over time. You can put items in a plastic crates to limit space and simulate this. Crates should not be too big as the pet can learn to soil one end and lay in the other if the crate is too large. The crate should be big enough that the dog can stand without stooping and can comfortably turn around. Bedding: You may want bedding in multiple locations. For example you may want crate bedding and a separate bed in the living room or next to a window/glass door so your pet can watch what is going on outside. Bedding should be easily washable. Food and Water dishes: Consider dishes that are stainless steel or ceramic . Puppies can chew plastic. Also, these types of bowls are easy to clean and have some weight to them making them more difficult to move or tip over (especially ceramic). Some bowls have anti-skid bottoms that help prevent movement. Don't forget to put a water dish in the crate. There are crate dishes designed specifically for use in a crate/kennel. Likely your puppy will spend extended periods in this environment so it needs to be comfortable with water available. Harness/Collars/Leads/ID Tags: There are times that you will need to restrain your puppies movement when they are not in their crate. For this use a harness or collar with a lead/leash. A harness restrains various parts of the body and therefore does not pull on the neck as a collar. It is probably a better choice for larger or aggressive dogs for restraint. You will still require a collar for ID tags. It is important to have an ID tag on your dog's collar in the case that you become separated. There are retractable leashes that are very convenient in adjusting the length of the leash to the different requirements of changing environments. Perhaps if you see another person or animal approaching you can shorten the lead length and lengthen it as the situation changes. Some people prefer the simplicity of a standard lead/leash. Toys: These are a must. Puppies have a lot of energy that they need focused. Otherwise you will find they choose a human item for a toy that you would have preferred they left alone. The type of toy that they will take to will vary from puppy to puppy. As example some prefer hard bones while others prefer softer items. Some like to play with a rope and others will not. You will need to experiment to determine what you pet prefers. For harder chew toys be sure to throw the toy away when it has been reduced to about half it's original size. If your pet gets the toy to this point in a day or two than it is either too small to start with or not an appropriate type of toy for them. Harder chew toys should last weeks and not days. While your puppy is small and teething it is appropriate to try toys specifically designed for puppies. Storage: If you do not want your floor as the storage area for your puppy items than you need a chest or some other container to keep yourself organized. Also, it is a good idea to have a sealed storage container for your pets food to keep it fresh and neatly stored. This also helps keep pests out of the food like ants or otherwise. Repellent: If you have an issue with your pet chewing things that are not their toy than you can use a chew repellent to deter them. Typically these type of repellents are natural products that taste bad to the pet. There are also repellents that train your pet to avoid things like couches or rooms. These use various technologies to persuade your pet to avoid areas you determine as off limits. Gates - Limiting movement within your house: Likely you will not want your pet to have the run of the house for many reasoning. Some parts of your house may not be puppy proof or you may have valuables you do not want your new family member to get into. There are many more reasons to limit movement. Fore this you can use gates to restrict the area the puppy is allowed to move in. Rabbits for Dummies Rabbits are NOT boring. Placing a rabbit in an outdoor hutch with minimal interaction from you and your family does result in a boring (and bored) pet. However, if housed indoors with regular interaction from you and your family, a pet rabbit suddenly becomes a social, fun-loving addition to a family and a household. Rabbits are NOT low maintenance pets. Rabbits have needs similar to those of other household pets. Rabbits have specific dietary needs just like most pets. Cages and litter boxes need frequent cleaning. A properly cared for rabbit can live 8 to 10 years, sometimes even longer. This is quite a long-term commitment for a rabbit owner. Rabbits are BAD starter pets for children. Parents and children should take care of the rabbit together until the child is old enough to care for the rabbit by themselves. This way the bunny rabbit can be enjoyed by the whole family. (you'd be surprised, Dad and Mom - Rabbits are cool). Kid's may hate to clean the rabbit's cage. Rabbits often bought for children may become neglected as the child gets older and participates in activities outside the home. The once "new toy" may become "boring" and the child may lose interest in the animal. Parents should be willing to take over the responsibility of the pet rabbit should their child lose interest. Rabbits are NOT mean but they may bite. Rabbits are delicate, ground loving creatures. Rabbits are very social animals that enjoy the company of humans and other animals. Some rabbits love to snuggle alot, while other pet rabbits would prefer being petted on the ground. Some rabbits that prefer to stay on the ground may try and escape if they are being held, and may do this by biting or scratching. Spend time on the floor with your rabbit and see the world through your rabbit's eyes. Rabbits only eat carrots - HAHA -- Rabbits do eat them but ... Rabbits do eat carrots, but these should be given only as a treat as they are high in sugar. A rabbit's diet should include unlimited hay and this should be available to them at all times. Pellets should be offered in limited quantities to rabbits over seven months old. Do not feed pellets with nuts, seeds, dried vegetables or other "treats" in them to your pet rabbit! These pellets are low in quality and very high in fat. Vegetables such as dark leafy greens should also make up a large portion of your rabbit's diet. Iceberg lettuce (normal head lettuce) should not be given to rabbits as this type of lettuce causes diarrhea because of its high water content. Pros and cons
There are a good many arguments for keeping them inside. They will live longer since the chances of being hit by a car, hurt by other people or animals, or infected with contagious diseases from feral cats will be minimized (not to mention ticks and fleas). Cats will also prey on birds and small mammals. These are but a few of the issues that arise from roaming cats. On the other hand, cats derive much pleasure from exploring around outside. If cats are allowed outside they need to be sterilized to prevent unwanted pregnancies and stray issues. Compromises - Limiting Activity and Movement Often, a satisfactory compromise is to allow the cat out under supervision. One method used is to let them out into a fenced yard. However, if you leave them out there, they will probably eventually climb the fence. Because of this a fenced yard is not a real solution. Using a harness and leash is a method that will work. Accustom them to the harness first, in the same way as a collar. Then accustom them to the leash by leaving it on for short periods of time. Then take them outside, and follow them where they go (do not try to take them "on a walk"). You can proof your backyard against escape with an "invisible fence" arrangement (these are usually for dogs, but our models have been adapted for cats). These give the pet a correction stimulus when approaching the property boundary. Make it Easy on Yourself! - Pet Doors Pet doors are a good solution for people tired of letting cats in and out. There are many kinds of doors, including those that fit into patio doors without requiring a hole cut through the wall or door. You may have trouble with other animals coming in the door, or want to let your dog but not your cat use the pet door. The solution is an electronic pet door. The door has a lock that is deactivated by a special collar designed to work with the door. Therefore only the pet with the color will be allowed access. Electronic pet doors are installed much like a regular pet door, but you plug them in or they run off batteries. The electronic doors need a firmer push to open than most. A great feature is the 4-way lock. The lock can be set so the cat can 1) go both in and out 2) go in only - great if you want to catch them 3) out only 4) totally locked. It's cold here in the Northeast and likewise in the Northwest also. Making sure that your pet is safe in the winter is important and I'll be talking about that in detail in my next blog entry, but I wanted to share a quick story with you that should open your eyes to what ice can really do to your pet dog. Last winter we let our 4 year old dog outside when it was cold and icy. Of course, being the good pet owners that we are, he was only out there about 10 minutes, but we heard a crash and whimpering. We still are not exactly sure what happened, but the vet said that it was the equivalent of a torn ACL in a human. The poor dog slipped on the ice and ripped his leg up. Nine months later and about 2,000 in Vet bills, our dog is doing fine. But I am sure that he suffered alot of pain that could have been avoided. Please buy Ice Melter for your pets (dogs in particular ) this winter. The Safe Pet Ice Melter pictured above has the aded benefit of being safe for pets. It is a proven ice melter that’s safe for pets. For use on sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas. Non-corrosive. Environmentally friendly. Prevents ice and snow from re-bonding. It is important to understand the nature of rabbits so that their wants and habits are known and attended to. Often, rabbits are purchased for children and are considered to be a lessor responsibility than a cat or dog. This can be similar to an impulse purchase to in response to a child's request. Baby rabbits can be irresistible and are easy to handle for the child. Then quickly the rabbit grows up and takes on the personality of an adult animal. Information on rabbit behavior can be found in on websites such as House Rabbit Society and Rabbit Advocates . There are many positives for kids in owning a rabbit. It is an educational experience in animal care and behavior. Gentleness and love required when interacting with a pet bunny can give your child lifelong lessons on kindness and responsibility. After educating yourself, it will be clear to you that adopting a rabbit is a family decision and not based on an impulse.
Things to consider before adapting
Supplies needed to care for a rabbit? Below are rabbit supplies you should consider before purchasing your pet. Housing: Cages and pens are the primary choices for rabbit's living quarters. The enclosure needs to be large enough for the rabbit to move around freely. Consider the adult size requirement if your rabbit is not fully grown. You will need space for the litter box and bowls. It may be worthwhile considering a movable pen/cage in the case that your location needs may change. Litter Box: Rabbits need to be trained to use a litter box to keep the pen clean. If you are having difficulty you can start with a flat pan to make use easy for the rabbit. Upon success you can switch to a larger litter box. Litter: The litter should be dust free and safe for the rabbit if ingested. Consider litters that are organic such as plant fiber, recycled paper and wood. Bowls: Use bowls; one each for pellets, fresh vegetables and water. Heavy, flat-bottomed bowls work best so the rabbit cannot tip them. Water: It is a good idea to use a water bottle in conjunction with a bowl. This provides a supply of fresh water if one is out of water (or knocked over). Cage bottom board: If the rabbits pen has a wire bottom it is necessary to have an area with a flat bottom (such as a board) for the rabbit to rest on off of the wire mesh. This should be large enough for the pet to rest, stretched out, in all directions. Toys: Toys are important not only for stimulation but also to keep the rabbit out of trouble. Toys for small pets are sold at retailers. You can also use, hard plastic baby toys (rattles, key rings), a towel to push and bunch, cardboard boxes made into forts and tunnels... Use your imagination. Feed: Pellets should be high quality and contain at least 13% fiber. Store food in an airtight container and the pellets will last approximately six months.
